Fair to Good overall conditions

Welcome to the start of our ORV Trail Reports!
These will be posted every week or so depending on changing conditions.
Trails are currently in a Fair to Good overall condition for ORV riding. The trails are still 80% covered with a packed snow base. Fun but slower riding trail conditions, icy in areas with water holes, soft spots and ruts forming. The combination of ice and soft ruts can easily re-direct your machine, add in a soft snowy bank and you are quickly pulled off the trail. We can attest to that with today’s ride collecting counter data and inspecting trails – see pictures. Overall the trails were adventurous with the bonus of a dozen Turkey seen on Trail 418 and a few Deer on Trail 417 – see pictures. Remember, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is CLOSED to ORV traffic. H-58 from Munising to Grand Marais is the only road through it that is open to ORV use.
Ride safe and have fun!
- Ride with caution, areas of hard packed snow base remains with icy patches, soft spots and ruts starting to form.
- Trail 419 between Munising and Wetmore has a temporary culvert still in place, too much snow to remove for a safe crossing. Ride with extreme caution as open pockets are starting to form around it - see photos
- Trail 419 is closed to wheeled vehicle traffic for two miles from Munising toward Christmas starting at Brook street. Follow ORV Detour - see route and signage in photos
- Trail 422 is CLOSED to ORV's in the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Miners Castle is NOT Accessible. You can only ride as far north as the Miners Castle Road / Carmody Road Intersection.
